The 2026 tournament is the biggest in history — 48 teams, 104 matches, three host nations, 16 cities. If you've got questions about who plays when, where to watch, how the format works, or what happened in previous editions, this is the guide. Updated through May 2026.
- 📅 Dates: June 11 – July 19, 2026
- 🌎 Host nations: USA, Canada, Mexico
- 🏟️ Venues: 16 stadiums across 16 cities
- 👥 Teams: 48 (expanded from 32)
- ⚽ Matches: 104 total
- 🏆 Final window: July 19, 2026
How the New 48-Team Format Works
The 2026 format is different from any previous World Cup. Here's the structure:
- Group stage: 12 groups of 4 teams. Top 2 from each group advance, plus the 8 best third-placed teams — 32 teams total advance.
- Round of 32: New stage introduced this cycle. The 32 qualifiers play single-elimination matches.
- Round of 16 → Quarter-finals → Semi-finals → Final: Standard knockout from that point.
The tournament opens on June 11 and runs through the final on July 19.
